ABOUT US
We have two ensembles at the University: Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Together, we put on three concerts a year, one each academic term, under the leadership of our professional conductor, Tim Pithers. We also enjoy collaborating with other societies, and accompanying solo performances from other musicians and singers within the University.
In 2019, we collaborated with a member of Operasoc who accompanied a set of Arias in our Spring Concert. We joined the Exeter University Choral Society to accompany Haydn's Creation in November 2022, and to perform Brahms' German Requiem in March 2024. We have also collaborated with the Exeter University Chamber Orchestra on our tours to Bruges and Cologne in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
As well as our concert performances, we aim to work with the local community and establish links even outside of Exeter. We have visited Barton Place Care Home to perform to the residents, Exeter Hospital and local primary schools to spark an interest in music for young individuals!
We also have a well established relationship with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and have received support from their musicians during a coaching session with them at the start of term one this year. We continue to collaborate and are fortunate enough to be joined by their musicians again next year!
In addition to EUSO and EUSWO, we also run film music days once a term, giving students the opportunity to come and play in our orchestras for the day in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Our committee are looking forward to welcoming new members, and tackling new, challenging pieces of music, at the start of the forthcoming academic year.
